The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Nigeria Police Force to launch a thorough and impartial investigation into the alleged attack on its campaign convoy in Ososa, Odogbolu Local Government Area.
State Chairman, Dr. Abayomi Tella, made the appeal on Thursday in Abeokuta, citing political harassment and intimidation of PDP members.
He urged Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to deploy a special investigation team to probe the incident.
According to Tella, the attack occurred on Wednesday during the flag-off of the PDP’s Ogun East campaign.
He alleged that hoodlums fired gunshots and hurled stones at the last batch of vehicles in the convoy, vandalising several cars and injuring party members.
He claimed that one of the vehicles, belonging to Hon. Agbolade, bore a gunshot mark on its alloy rim after its tyre was deflated.
“The first thing I would plead with the IGP to do is to thoroughly investigate what transpired on Wednesday and ascertain what type of gun was used to shoot at our candidate’s car,” Tella said.
The PDP chairman further alleged that some victims of the attack were arrested by police despite being complainants, with five to six members still in custody.
He urged the police to “act with conscience” and ensure fairness in the investigation.Tella also accused authorities of preventing the party from using Idowa as its campaign venue despite paying ₦170,000 for approval, forcing the rally to relocate to Odogbolu.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olufemi Nuberu, condemned the incident, alleging that sporadic shooting came from security personnel attached to PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu.
He also called on the IGP to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.Despite the controversy, Tella maintained that the PDP remains committed to peaceful political participation and accused the ruling party of attempting to suppress opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
