Osun APC Rejects Recall Move Against Senator, Backs Fadahunsi’s Re-Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the six local government areas of the Ijesa axis of Osun East Senatorial District has rejected moves to recall Senator Francis Fadahunsi, branding the campaign as the handiwork of anti-APC elements.

Akinyele Akintola, Director of the Contact and Mobilisation Committee of the APC in Ijesa South Federal Constituency, made the position known in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Friday. He was reacting to a recent protest against the senator in Ilesa.

The six local governments are Obokun, Oriade, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East and Atakumosa West.Akintola alleged that Fadahunsi’s political opponents orchestrated the demonstration and cautioned stakeholders in the senatorial district against any actions that could heighten tension.Earlier, a group of youths from Osun East had staged a peaceful protest in Ilesa.

Speaking for the demonstrators, Olatunji Olorunfemi accused the senator of making statements capable of triggering mass violence.

Olorunfemi described the protest as the first phase of efforts to end Fadahunsi’s tenure, stating that a petition had already been filed and that the formal recall process would commence shortly.

“We, under the aegis of the Coalition of Youth and Students with Concerned Citizens of Osun East Senatorial District, are opposed to the reckless statements made by our Senator before the election. This protest is the first stage of our actions. We are recalling him back home. We are still going to Abuja. All the necessary lawful actions to recall him have been put together which we will start in a few days,” he said.

Dismissing the recall campaign, Akintola listed what he described as Fadahunsi’s achievements during more than seven years in the Senate. He said the lawmaker had helped about 400 qualified women and youths secure gainful employment.

“On the home front, there are physical evidence of tangible impact, Investment and achievements in Education, Road Construction and Rehabilitation, Electricity and Solar Power, ICT Projects, Youth and Women Empowerments in Skills Acquisition and Social Interventions,” Akintola stated.

He further described Fadahunsi as a law-abiding citizen with an unblemished record as a high-ranking Customs officer, noting that the senator had been conferred with the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR). “We in APC reject call for his recall by any sponsored groups or individuals,” he added.

Akintola emphasised that Fadahunsi’s re-election would benefit the entire East Senatorial District, citing the senator’s strong relationship with President Bola Tinubu and key heads of federal ministries and agencies. This connection, he argued, would help attract more development projects to the ten local government areas in the district.
