Muhammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, has urged Nigerians to avoid misrepresenting the country’s security challenges.
In a Thursday X post, the minister said the nation’s
security crisis is not a religious war and should not be framed as such.
“We must continue to resist those who seek to portray
Nigeria’s security challenge as a religious war. It is not a religious war,” he
wrote.
Idris said terrorists and criminal groups target Nigerians
of all faiths, adding that citizens must remain united in confronting the
threats.
“The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
will not relent in its efforts to protect Nigerians of all faiths by
strengthening security coordination, improving intelligence gathering, and
prioritising the welfare and morale of our Armed Forces and other security
agencies,” the minister said.
He said the recent successes, including the elimination of
“hundreds of terrorists and bandits” and the rescue of abducted citizens,
attest to the government’s determination to defeat the country’s enemies.
“We will not be divided, and we will never be defeated,”
Idris said.
In October 2025, US President Donald Trump redesignated
Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’ following allegations of a
Christian genocide in the country.
