Saratu Jibo, the 37-year-old woman declared missing by her family after arriving in Qatar, has been found at a hospital in the Middle East country.
Michael Achimugu, director of public affairs and consumer
protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), announced on Sunday
that Saratu is in safe condition.
THE DISAPPEARANCE
Saratu departed the Murtala Muhammed International Airport
in Lagos on Tuesday for Qatar via Qatar Airways.
On Friday, Jonathan Jibo, Saratu’s brother, raised an alarm
via X that his sister had been unreachable since she arrived in Qatar.
Jonathan said the last time he communicated with Saratu was
when she was airborne because she was connected to the aeroplane WiFi.
He said that after her flight landed in Doha, she never
contacted the person assigned to pick her up from the airport.
Jonathan said when the individual contacted the airport
desk, he was told that Saratu had picked up her luggage.
Responding to Jonathan’s post, Achimugu said the airline
confirmed that closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras showed that Saratu
arrived safely, picked up her bags, and exited the terminal.
‘HER PHONE, PASSPORT WERE HELD BY CUSTOMS’
Providing an update on the matter, Achimugu said Saratu’s
mobile phone and international passport were held by the authorities in Qatar.
The NCAA director said Saratu was unable to reach anyone
during the process, adding she has now been cleared and released.
“I have spoken with the lady. She is safe. Her mobile phone
and international passport were held by Customs, who were trying to clarify
some issues,” Achimugu wrote on X.
“She was unable to reach anyone while the process was
ongoing. However, she has been cleared and released, and has possession of her
properties. She has contacted her family, too.
“She assured me that she is safe, and she appreciates
everyone who showed concern for her safety.”
Achimugu commended Yusuf Adesoga, a Nigerian living in
Qatar, for his efforts in visiting all security agencies in the country to
track Saratu.
‘SHE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FROM AIRPORT’
Providing more details about the matter, Saratu’s brother
said his sister was taken to the hospital after falling ill at the airport.
Jonathan commended Achimugu, the Nigerian embassy in Doha,
and Qatar Airways for their intervention.
