The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), recording a significant decline in examination malpractice compared to the previous year.
Registrar of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the results on Thursday, revealing that 1,378,048 candidates registered, while 1,371,992 sat for the exams.
According to him, 804,948 candidates , representing 58.67% obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
A total of 1,126,118 candidates, representing 84.70%, secured five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics.
Wushishi disclosed that 1,496 candidates were involved in malpractice in 2026, a sharp reduction from 3,878 cases recorded in 2025, representing a 64.74% decrease.
He attributed the improvement to the adoption of computer-based examinations.The registrar also dismissed claims linking NECO to “miracle centres,” stressing that the council registers examination centres based on strict criteria and owns only one school.
“If there are miracle centres, they are established by state governments or private individuals, not NECO,” he said.
NECO reiterated its commitment to maintaining credibility in its examinations and urged candidates to continue embracing integrity in their academic pursuits.
