The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted two major shipments of synthetic cannabis, popularly known as Colorado or Colos, smuggled into Nigeria from the United Kingdom.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, seized 27 parcels of Colos weighing 32.20kg.
A real estate agent, Abideen Jide Salami, was arrested after attempting to collect the consignment using a secret code sent by his brother in the UK.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of another recipient, Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri, 44, who was caught with 12.25kg of Colos.
Kadiri admitted the drugs were sent by his brother abroad.In Lagos, NDLEA’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) uncovered additional consignments hidden inside music speakers at motor parks.
One shipment, destined for Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia, resulted in the arrest of tour agent Ifeanyi Obed Augustine, 41, and Obasi Ugochukwu, 46.
Another suspect, Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry, was caught trying to dispatch 2.1kg of Colos to Kano.
The agency also reported multiple seizures across states:
Delta State: Pentazocine injections, codeine syrup, tramadol, diazepam, flunitrazepam, and MDMA were recovered; two suspects arrested.
Kano: 785,000 capsules of pregabalin seized; diazepam tablets found hidden in loaves of bread.
Plateau: 157,100 capsules of tramadol confiscated.Edo: Over 4,800kg of cannabis destroyed in forest raids.
Ondo: 186kg of skunk recovered from a car boot in Akure.Kaduna: A female suspect arrested with 369.6kg of cannabis.
Bayelsa: Four suspects, including a 70-year-old woman, caught with 876kg of cannabis.War Against Drug Abuse (WADA)Beyond enforcement, NDLEA continued its WADA sensitisation campaign nationwide.
Activities included lectures in schools, advocacy visits to health institutions, and engagements with traditional rulers.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended officers across commands for their efforts, urging them to sustain the crackdown on drug cartels at airports, seaports, land borders, and cannabis cultivation sites.
