The family of Saratu Jibo has raised concerns over her disappearance shortly after arriving in Doha, the capital city of Qatar, from Lagos, Nigeria.
In a series of X posts on Friday, Jonathan Jibo, Saratu’s
brother, said his sister left the Lagos International Airport on Tuesday for
Qatar via Qatar Airways.
Jonathan said the last time he communicated with his sister
was when she was airborne because she was connected to the WiFi.
He said that after her flight landed in Doha, she never
contacted the person assigned to pick her up from the airport.
“The problem is the flight landed safely but he (the person
who was supposed to pick her from the airport) never gets to see her,” Jonathan
wrote.
The brother said when the person contacted the airport desk,
he was told that Saratu had picked up her luggage.
“This is her first time flying abroad and she has no friends
in Qatar. She paid for her accommodation and everything [was] sorted out months
ahead… before the journey,” the brother wrote.
“The man who worked out everything is a family friend for
long, and she was to resume work in Doha weeks after arrival.”

Jonathan said he had forwarded his sister’s details to the
Nigerian embassy in Doha.
NCAA REACTS
Responding to Jonathan’s complaint on Saturday, Michael
Achimugu, director of public affairs and consumer protection at the Nigeria
Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), said the airline confirmed that closed-circuit
television (CCTV) cameras showed that Saratu arrived safely, picked her bags,
and exited the terminal.
Achimugu said that because Friday and Saturday are public
holidays in Qatar, investigations are moving at a snail’s pace.
The NCAA director said he had expressed concerns about
possible human trafficking and forced labour with the airline and that he was
assured that if Saratu checked in at the hotel, the case would be easier to
treat.
“But later today or tomorrow, we will be able to confirm if
she arrived at the hotel she booked, and if she got there via the hotel pick-up
vehicle,” Achimugu wrote.
“Every Qatar visa booking must be tied to a specific hotel
reservation. In some cases, passengers arrive at the hotel booked, and then
leave quietly. DISCOVER QATAR will check to confirm the name of her hotel, and
whether your sister did, indeed, get to the hotel.”

Because yesterday and today are more like public holidays for the guys over there, investigations are a little slow, but later today or tomorrow, we will be able… https://t.co/9OWJbhQBW0
