The Nigerian military has reportedly neutralised another notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Hare, during an encounter with security forces in Zamfara State.
Hare, who was said to have terrorised communities around Mada in Gusau Local Government Area and parts of neighbouring Bungudu LGA, was killed following a clash near Gusami village. The area lies between Bungudu and Gusau, where troops engaged Hare’s fighters, resulting in the deaths of several bandits.
Conflict journalist Bakatsine disclosed the development in a post on X, noting that Hare was captured after sustaining serious injuries during the firefight. He was found with ammunition in his possession but later died from his wounds in the early hours of Wednesday.
There had been earlier speculation about Hare’s death after one of his close associates was eliminated days ago, but confirmation only came with the latest military operation.
The Nigerian military has intensified its offensive against bandit groups across Zamfara and the wider North-West region, targeting several commanders in recent months. These sustained operations aim to weaken the networks responsible for widespread insecurity, kidnappings, and attacks on rural communities.
