Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, says he met major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in Egypt to discuss upgrading aviation infrastructure across Nigeria.
OEMs are the companies that design and manufacture aircraft,
aircraft engines, and other aviation equipment.
Keyamo spoke on Wednesday in a post on his official X
account after attending the opening ceremony of the second El Alamein
International Airshow at El Alamein International Airport.
According to the post, the opening ceremony was presided
over by president of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and president of Cyprus Nikos
Christodoulides.
“The occasion afforded us the opportunity to meet major OEMs
from around the world and engage in discussions regarding upgrading our
aviation infrastructure across the country,” the minister said.
“I also met the team from Saudi Arabia and held discussions
concerning the early preparations for next year’s Hajj.”
In April 2026, Nigeria received the civil aviation master
plan (CAMP) from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The plan, which spans a 20-year period (2025–2045), outlines
strategies to build a modern, competitive, and resilient aviation sector, with
a focus on infrastructure and technology development, including the
modernisation of airport facilities and deployment of advanced technologies
such as unmanned aerial systems.
The plan also emphasises safety, with a commitment to
maintaining a zero-fatality aviation environment through compliance with
international standards.L
