Minister of Works David Umahi has criticised Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi for his repeated use of the phrase “go and verify."
In a video that circulated widely on Wednesday, Umahi expressed strong dislike for the expression whenever Obi discusses his records, policies or claims about governance.“I hate hearing this statement he always makes, ‘go and verify,’” the minister said.
Umahi was responding to Obi’s habit of urging Nigerians to independently examine and confirm the claims he makes, particularly on matters of governance, public spending, development and his own time in office.
Obi has consistently used the phrase to invite public scrutiny, encouraging people to check his statements against available records and documents rather than accepting them at face value.
