How Nigerians Can Apply for 2027/2028 UK Commonwealth Scholarship – FG


The Federal Ministry of Education has called on qualified Nigerian university graduates to apply for the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowship Plan. 


Applications close on 20 October 2026.The scholarships, tenable in the United Kingdom, cover one-year taught Master’s programmes or doctoral studies lasting up to three years. The invitation was issued by the ministry’s Department of Scholarship Awards (formerly the Federal Scholarship Board) and signed by Dr Folake Olatunji-David on behalf of the Minister of Education. It was also shared by the Lagos State Scholarship Board.


Eligibility requirements

Master’s applicants must hold a first degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division.

Doctoral applicants need a relevant Master’s degree plus at least a Second Class Lower Division in their first degree.


All candidates must have secured admission offers from at least two UK institutions.


Doctoral candidates must also submit a supporting statement from a prospective supervisor at their chosen UK university.


Evidence of participation in the National Youth Service Corps is required.


Selection will be based on academic merit, the potential development impact of the studies upon completion, and the quality of the study plan.


How to apply

Applications must be submitted exclusively through the Electronic Application System (EAS). 


Candidates should:

Register on the EAS portal and complete the online form.

Upload scanned copies of a passport photograph, university academic transcripts, birth certificate, and admission letters from the UK institutions listed in the form.

Submit the completed application online by 20 October 2026.

After online submission, generate a PDF of the form, download it, and print one hard copy to present at the interview venue.
