Gov.Adeleke Sets Up Panels to Investigate Osun Election Violence


The Osun State Government has inaugurated two investigative panels to probe allegations of violence and unlawful activities linked to the August 15, 2026 governorship election.


The inauguration took place Wednesday at the Ministry of Justice Conference Hall, Abere, with Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, representing Governor Ademola Adeleke.


The Commission of Inquiry will examine reports of intimidation, assault, destruction of property, unlawful possession of weapons, and breaches of public peace across the state. 


A separate Coroner’s Inquest will focus on the Ikire killings.Jimi-Bada explained that the move was prompted by petitions and public concerns, stressing that elections must remain free and peaceful. 


He emphasized that the exercise was not intended to persecute any individual or political party but to establish facts, ensure accountability, and strengthen public order.


“This is a lawful fact-finding body established to ascertain the truth, identify persons affected, determine responsibility where supported by credible evidence, and recommend measures to strengthen public peace,” he said.


The Attorney-General urged political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, and citizens to cooperate with the panels, warning against intimidation of witnesses or interference with proceedings.


The Commission of Inquiry is chaired by Justice Abdurazaq Abdulkareem, with Barrister Biodun Badiora as Secretary, while the Coroner’s Inquest is led by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola.
