The Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, Sir Tersoo Kula, has criticised former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over his recent remarks about the governor.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kula described Kwankwaso’s comments as an “unfortunate and unwarranted insult” that failed to promote constructive political discourse.
He urged the former Kano governor to concentrate on politics in his home state and respect the electoral mandate of the people of Benue.Kula linked Kwankwaso’s grievances to the controversy surrounding Peter Obi’s visit to Benue.
He alleged that the former Kano governor had falsely accused Alia of disrupting the visit, which he claimed was deliberately orchestrated by individuals seeking to damage the governor’s reputation.
Defending Alia’s mandate, the governor’s aide stressed that Alia was elected by the people of Benue and deserved respect regardless of political differences.
He advised Kwankwaso to address the political challenges facing his party in Kano rather than interfere in Benue’s internal affairs or comment on the relationship between Alia and Senator George Akume.
“Kwankwaso should face Kano politics. He has enough to explain about why his party performed so abysmally in the last by-elections conducted in his state. He must respect the people’s mandate in Benue and offer ideas, not insults,” Kula stated.
He further urged Kwankwaso to stop what he described as insults to the sensibilities of Benue people, noting that citizens are capable of assessing their government and determining their own political future.
