Tensions escalated at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters on Wednesday as workers blocked the entrance, preventing Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, from accessing their offices.
A viral video on X captured the moment the minister’s motorcade arrived, only to be met by chanting protesters shouting “Alausa must go” while barricading the premises.
The protest stems from a heated dispute over the Federal Government’s proposed 35-year concession of King’s College, Lagos to its old boys’ association.
Workers’ unions have strongly opposed the plan, citing concerns about staff welfare, administrative lapses, and broader implications for public education.
Despite recent engagements between ministry officials and union representatives, the workers remain adamant, demanding Alausa’s removal and pressing for reforms.
The latest demonstration underscores the deepening rift between the ministry’s leadership and its workforce.
