A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has criticised the Bola Tinubu administration for reportedly expanding the Presidential Air Fleet by five aircraft in less than four years.
In a post on his verified X handle, the former Kogi West Senator described the move as “ridiculous” for a country grappling with poverty, noting that the Nigerian Air Force did not receive a single new aircraft throughout 2025.
Melaye listed the additions to the fleet as:
5N-FGY – brand-new Bombardier GL7T
T7-FGQ – three-year-old Pilatus PC-24
5N-FGA – Airbus A330
M-FGNG – Gulfstream G500
M-NGSA – Gulfstream G500
According to him, three of the aircraft with Nigerian registrations beginning with 5N were purchased outright by the government, while two were leased from a private company at undisclosed rates.
Melaye argued that the expansion of the presidential fleet highlights misplaced priorities, especially at a time when ordinary Nigerians face economic hardship.
