Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South and the Peoples Redemption Party’s (PRP) 2027 governorship candidate, has dared those accusing him of ties to bandits to present credible evidence before security agencies or the courts.
Buba dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, describing them as part of a smear campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Anyone with credible evidence against me should present it to the appropriate security agencies or courts instead of resorting to blackmail, misinformation, fabricated allegations or character assassination,” he stated.
The former chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence has faced accusations since 2024, including claims amplified by videos circulated by a content creator known as D English Alhaji.
The videos alleged that suspected bandit kingpins had visited Buba’s residence.Further allegations surfaced when a resident, Hassan, accused the senator of aiding bandits and claimed individuals linked to notorious kingpin Dogo Gide were taken to Abuja for training allegedly facilitated by one of Buba’s aides.
In response, Buba vowed not to be intimidated, insisting he had already referred the matter to security agencies and the courts. He described the attacks as part of a “sponsored campaign” aimed at damaging his reputation.
Speaking to aides, party leaders, and religious figures who gathered to show solidarity, Buba reaffirmed his commitment to lawful measures in tackling insecurity.
He emphasized community participation, intelligence gathering, dialogue, and peacebuilding as key strategies.“Criminality knows no religion, tribe, gender, colour, race, social status or geographical boundary,” he said, stressing the need for unity in combating terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.
The senator urged his supporters to exercise restraint, avoid unverified claims, and remain focused on public service. His legislative aides, led by Hassan Gaji, pledged loyalty and commended Buba for refusing to engage in a media war with political opponents.
