Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 18 Brigade have successfully rescued 22 kidnapped victims during a patrol operation in Muchiya village, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
The rescue, carried out on September 15, followed credible intelligence about terrorists converging in the area.
According to a statement issued by Captain Adebayo Adewumi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 18 Brigade, troops from the Garrison unit and 45 Battalion launched a fighting patrol that forced the terrorists to flee into the forest.
“The determined troops sustained the pursuit on the terrorists along their escape routes. Consequently, 22 kidnapped victims were rescued, while three motorcycles and other items were recovered,” the statement read.
All rescued victims have since been reunited with their families. One victim, Alhaji Hassan, who sustained injuries while in captivity, was evacuated to a clinic and is responding to treatment.
The Commander of 18 Brigade commended the troops for their “resilience, gallantry, and doggedness,” urging them to maintain momentum and ensure continuous domination of the area.
He reassured residents of Muchiya and surrounding communities of the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while calling for timely intelligence from locals to aid ongoing operations.
