Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have distanced themselves from any alliance with individuals or opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections, reaffirming their commitment to the ruling party’s structure and candidates.
Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, made the declaration after a late-night meeting in Abuja on Monday.
He stressed that the governors had not entered into any agreement with former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who has been promoting a “Rainbow Coalition” movement in support of President Bola Tinubu.
Wike recently alleged that Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were behind his political challenges, claiming his coalition was gaining national traction and offering a platform for PDP politicians to contest against APC candidates.
In what appeared to be a direct response, Uzodimma said the governors would not entertain arrangements that could create confusion or divided loyalty within the party.
“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” Uzodimma stated.
He emphasized that the governors’ campaign commitment was exclusively to APC candidates across presidential, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly elections.
The communique underscored the party’s determination to maintain unity and discipline as it intensifies preparations for the 2027 polls.
