A United States-based political advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has declared that America will not permit Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to manipulate the 2027 general elections.
In a post on its verified X account on Thursday, the firm asserted that free and fair polls in Nigeria are vital to safeguarding US interests in the country and the wider West African region.
The firm further claimed that, across political lines, there is a growing view that the Nigerian government under Tinubu has become a stronghold of corruption.
It pointed specifically to Tinubu’s appointment of a minister in charge of the national budget, whom the US Department of Justice had previously linked to the embezzlement of billions of dollars from Nigeria’s treasury under an earlier administration.
“The US cannot afford to allow President Tinubu to rig the upcoming Nigerian election,” the firm stated.
“This level of lawlessness in the Nigerian government puts Nigeria on a path similar to those seen in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso. Free and fair elections in Nigeria are essential to protecting US interests in Nigeria and the broader region.”
