The Executive Chairman of Urue-Offong/Oruko Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Chief Uno Etim, has approved a monthly stipend of ₦20,000 for every National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in the area.
Chief Uno announced the decision on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the corps members. He stated that the payment would take immediate effect.
Addressing the corps members, the chairman urged them to regard Urue-Offong/Oruko as their home throughout their service year.
He pledged full support to help them carry out their duties effectively and assured them that issues relating to accommodation and welfare would be addressed promptly.
He directed the Works Department to inspect the corps members’ lodges and identify areas needing renovation or other improvements.
Chief Uno described the stipend as a practical demonstration of his administration’s commitment to supporting young Nigerians who are contributing their time, skills, and energy to the development of the local government area.
He called on the corps members to remain dedicated to their responsibilities, assuring them that their safety, welfare, and peaceful service would remain priorities of the council.
Speaking on behalf of the corps members, Community Liaison Officer Ukachukwu Ifeanyi thanked the chairman for the gesture and for the development initiatives being carried out across the area.
