A third factional chairman has emerged in the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Dr Markus Peter Danbaki was sworn in as chairman by one faction of the party on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
He becomes the latest of three people claiming the position in Adamawa, the home state of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Before Danbaki’s emergence, the two existing factions were led by Sadiq Dasin and Alhaji Sai’du Naira.
The development has intensified the internal crisis in a state where two candidates were already contesting the ADC governorship ticket for the 2027 election.
Hamman Tukur Modibbo, who finished second in the party’s governorship primary held in May, is currently listed on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal as the official candidate.
However, Omar Suleiman, the primary winner, has challenged Modibbo’s emergence in court.Danbaki was inaugurated late on Sunday. Factional legal adviser Ibrahim Ahmad administered the oath of office in the presence of supporters loyal to his group.
The latest move is expected to further complicate the leadership dispute within the ADC in Adamawa State.
