‘25 family members of terrorists’ surrender to troops in Borno

At least 25 family members of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly surrendered to troops in Borno state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the suspects surrendered to troops of the 3 Battalion (Marine) in separate incidents amid the intensified military operations in the north-east.

The publication said on August 30, at about 3:45 pm, four family members of a terrorist turned themselves in to troops at a combat outpost in Ladiri area of the state.

Makama said a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are from the Arianna, Koloram Yerwa Kura, and Tumbuma communities in Marte LGA of the north-east state.

Makama said the suspects are in the custody of the 24 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation and necessary action.

“In a related development, at about 2 p.m. on Sept. 2, another group of terrorist family members comprising seven women and 14 children surrendered to troops of the 112 Task Force Battalion at Mafa in Dikwa Local Government Area of the state,” Makama said.

“Preliminary investigation indicated that the group fled the Yaganari terrorist enclave due to ongoing clashes between rival terrorist factions.”

Makama added that security agencies are processing the surrendered persons in accordance with established procedures.
