Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has inaugurated a 17-member APC Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee, charging it to reconcile aggrieved party members, restore unity and position the All Progressives Congress for victory in the 2027 elections.
The committee is chaired by former Kogi Governor Capt. Idris Ichala Wada. Governor Ododo inaugurated the panel and urged its members to approach the assignment with seriousness, describing it as historic.
“I am a man of peace. I am a man of consultation and engagement. I have never believed in violence as a means of resolving political differences. I believe that where there is disagreement, there must always be room for dialogue, understanding and reconciliation,” the governor said.
He stressed that the APC in Kogi is one family and that internal differences must give way to the greater interest of the party and the state, especially with the 2027 polls approaching. Ododo recalled that after emerging as the party’s candidate in the 2023 governorship election, he reached out to leaders across political, ethnic and religious lines, and said the same spirit of inclusiveness informed the creation of the committee.
He expressed confidence that the APC, which has dominated Kogi politics since 2015, can perform even stronger in 2027 if members remain united. The governor also highlighted the support Kogi has received from President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing projects such as the Kogi International Airport and the Ajaokuta Economic City, and declared that the state must continue to back the President and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Ododo tasked the committee with identifying the root causes of disputes, reaching out to aggrieved members, finding lasting solutions, reintegrating inactive founding members and recommending measures to promote lasting unity.
The panel has three weeks to complete its work. It is expected to produce a Statewide Grievance and Stakeholder Mapping Report, an APC Continuous Reconciliation Action Plan, a register of unresolved disputes with proposed solutions, a framework for reintegrating returning members, and a Final Reconciliation and Political Harmonisation Report.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Capt. Idris Wada thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in the members and assured that the panel would hit the ground running. Former Deputy Governor Chief Edward Onoja, the Second Vice Chairman, also pledged the committee’s full commitment to the assignment.
Other members of the committee include former Deputy Governors Yomi Awoniyi and Edward David Onoja as First and Second Vice Chairmen respectively, Pharm. Mohammed Jamiu Asuku as Third Vice Chairman, and Arc. Mohammed Suleiman as Secretary, among others.
