A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has expressed strong confidence that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will win the 2027 election if it is conducted freely and fairly while alleging that President Bola Tinubu might attempt to declare himself the winner.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday night, Galadima said Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, would triumph under a transparent process.
“Peter Obi and Kwankwaso will win this election if it is free, fair, and transparent, unless somebody decides to use the machinery of government to take it away from them,” he stated.
Galadima referenced a recent national poll organised by one of the presidential candidates, claiming Obi and Kwankwaso led in four of the country’s six geopolitical zones, North Central, Southeast, South-South and Southwest while Tinubu finished a distant third with no zone to his name.
He added that if “kalo kalo” (manipulative) politics prevails, Tinubu could still announce himself the winner after meeting the INEC chairman and some prominent Nigerians in France.
Galadima also warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against recruiting any of the 600 professors who recently endorsed Tinubu in Kaduna, describing their involvement as preparation for electoral fraud.
“Having assembled 600 professors in Kaduna to declare support for him, it’s preparatory to what we consider a fraud in this election and we are saying that none of those 600 professors should be recruited to superintend in the election because they have already taken sides,” he said.
