2027: Hunger, insecurity won’t stop Nigerians from re-electing Tinubu – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that hunger and insecurity will not prevent Nigerians from re-electing President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike stated this on Wednesday during a media parley with selected journalists in Abuja, arguing that many voters depend on political leaders and are not entirely independent in making political choices.

The minister was responding to concerns over the hardship and insecurity facing Nigerians, acknowledging that hunger and insecurity would remain issues in any Nigerian election.

He, however, urged critics to be practical rather than theoretical in assessing how voters make political choices.

The former Rivers State governor recalled that Nigerians also raised concerns about insecurity and hunger during elections under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“There is no election in Nigeria where the issue of hunger and insecurity won’t come up,” Wike said.

According to him, political dependence at the family, community, local government and ward levels would influence voting decisions.

He added that many Nigerians look up to political leaders for food and other forms of support, arguing that this makes the average Nigerian voter different from voters in countries where individuals are more independent in making political choices.
