The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured a one-month jail sentence for a truck driver after officials discovered 15 passengers concealed beneath a cargo cover during an enforcement operation.
A video shared on the FRSC’s official X account showed marshals inspecting a Mitsubishi truck, marked GDD 815 ZP, and pulling back a green cover to reveal passengers hidden among sacks and motorcycles.
FRSC spokesperson Osondu Ohaeri confirmed that the driver, Umar Muhammadu, was arrested after attempting to bribe an officer with ₦500 and failing to produce a valid driver’s licence.
The truck, its occupants, and eight motorcycles were handed over to the police for further investigation.
In a separate case in Abia State, another driver, Azubuike Dominic, was sentenced to one month in prison after absconding with an FRSC marshal during an arrest.
He was later reapprehended following a joint pursuit by FRSC and military personnel. The FRSC emphasized its commitment to tackling unsafe practices such as concealing passengers, overloading vehicles, and driving without valid licences.
The Corps warned that Mobile Courts and intelligence-led enforcement will continue to be deployed nationwide to ensure road safety.
