Tope Osoba, the Nollywood actress, has passed away at 40 after her battle with breast cancer.
Foluke Daramola, Osoba’s colleague, broke the news on
Wednesday via her Instagram page.
“She’s gone .tope is gone , my baby is gone. Ha ha ha iku
doro o,” she captioned the post.
In November 2024, Osoba had solicited financial assistance
after undergoing her first breast cancer surgery.
Daramola had previously shared her plight on social media.
She disclosed that Osoba underwent one surgery but required an additional
procedure to remove the remaining particles from her breast.
The second surgery was estimated to cost around N12 million.
Osoba expressed gratitude to those who donated and pleaded for continued
assistance to cover the costs of her second surgery.
Daramola also shared a video of Osoba’s hospital
examination, revealing that the actress reached out to Bolaji Amusan, president
of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria
(TAMPAN), for support.
In an interview with BBC News Yoruba, Osoba revealed how she
discovered a lump in her breast through a routine self-examination.
She said the doctor initially dismissed the lump,
attributing it to her childbearing age.
The actress said her persistence, however, led to further
testing, which revealed that the lump was cancerous.
She described the day she received the diagnosis as “one of the worst days of my life”.
Osoba began her career as a dancer before transitioning to acting in the early 2000s. Her notable films include ‘Gucci Girls’ (2012), ‘Accident’ (2013), and ‘Ifedolapo’ (2015).
