The Chief of Staff to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tayo Ayinde, on Saturday led a team from the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) Lagos on a condolence visit to the family of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Ayinde, who also serves as the Lagos State Ambassador of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, paid tribute to the late actor, describing him as a cultural icon whose long career advanced Yoruba identity, language and values through film and theatre.
In a statement released on Monday, Ayinde said Ogogo’s impact on the Nigerian entertainment industry extended far beyond acting. “Ogogo was more than an accomplished actor; he was a cultural icon whose career helped project Yoruba identity, language and values to a wider audience,” he stated.
He noted that the actor’s performances and commitment had secured him a place among those who shaped the growth of indigenous-language cinema in Nigeria. “Through his performances and years of dedication to the Nigerian film industry, Ogogo earned a place among the notable figures who helped shape the growth of indigenous-language cinema in Nigeria,” Ayinde added.
The Chief of Staff expressed solidarity with the Hassan family in their grief. “We acknowledge the pain that comes with the loss of a loved one and the difficulty of coming to terms with such a loss. At a time like this, our thoughts and prayers are with the Hassan family,” he said.
He prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and give strength and comfort to his widow, children and the wider family.Ayinde emphasised that Ogogo’s contributions would endure as part of Nigeria’s cultural history.
“His contributions to the entertainment industry will remain part of our cultural history. His work touched many lives and helped preserve aspects of our cultural heritage for generations,” he remarked. He urged the family to find comfort in the lasting legacy the actor left behind, which would continue to inspire future generations.
The delegation included RHA Lagos Chief of Staff Dr Shopeyin, Director of Protocol Hon. Jibike Babatunde, Director of Security Hon. Olalekan Abubakar, Hon. Bayo Ajisebutu and other members of the organisation.Ogogo, who was 66, died on Sunday, 23 August 2026, after a battle with stage-four cancer.
He was buried the following day in his hometown of Ilaro in accordance with Islamic rites. His passing has drawn widespread tributes from colleagues, fans and industry stakeholders who celebrated his decades of service to Nollywood and Yoruba culture.
