Abia North Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has defended President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the current economic hardship and insecurity in Nigeria are not the president’s fault.
Speaking in a viral video, Kalu said many politicians are deceiving Tinubu about the true state of the nation, while the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has been more forthright.
His comments followed the bishops’ recent visit to Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where they raised concerns about Nigeria’s worsening economy, insecurity, and political climate.
After the meeting, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, revealed that Tinubu rejected the bishops’ assessment, maintaining that his administration was on the right track.
Reacting, Kalu stressed that the bishops are “the conscience of the country,” adding:“There are real difficulties in Nigeria, but they are not President Tinubu’s fault. Even if politicians lie to him, the bishops will always tell the truth about the current reality.”
Kalu praised the bishops’ intervention, saying their honesty would push Tinubu to work harder despite attempts by some politicians to paint a false picture of progress.
