The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of two abducted persons and the killing of an armed bandit during a joint security operation in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
According to a statement by command spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar, the operation took place on Sunday around 2:30 p.m. along Tashar Lawali Village in Kagara District.
A combined team of police tactical operatives, Community Protection Guards, and Civilian Joint Task Force intercepted armed bandits riding on five motorcycles with abducted victims.
The bandits reportedly opened fire on the security team, but were repelled by superior firepower. One bandit was shot dead, and an AK-47 rifle with its magazine was recovered. Two abducted victims were freed, while other gang members fled with injuries.
“No casualties were recorded among the joint security forces,” the statement added, noting that efforts are ongoing to track fleeing suspects, rescue more victims, and recover additional weapons.
State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Bello, commended the operatives for their “courage, resilience, and prompt response,” assuring residents that intelligence-led operations will continue to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace in Zamfara.
