The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026 Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji (also known as Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji), has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Oyebamiji made the statement on Saturday, August 29, while addressing APC leaders, members and supporters in Osogbo on the election outcome and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
“In the spirit of democracy and as we commemorate the 35th anniversary of the creation of our dear Osun State, I congratulate His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, on his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission,” he said.
At the same time, he called on Adeleke, as the state’s Chief Security Officer, to fulfil his constitutional duty to protect the lives and property of all citizens, especially during the sensitive post-election period.
Oyebamiji condemned reported killings, harassment and intimidation of APC members and supporters, as well as alleged attacks on small and medium-sized businesses linked to perceived political affiliations.
He said the party lost more than 35 members to violence before, during and after the poll, and specifically recalled the deaths of former Irewole Local Government Chairman Remi Abass, Atakumosa APC Chairman Chief Gbenga Ogbara, and Dele Ayegbo (nephew of campaign council Director-General Wole Oke), among others.
He urged the Nigeria Police Force to thoroughly investigate the incidents and bring perpetrators to justice, while extending condolences to the victims’ families.
He demanded that the “senseless killings, harassment and intimidation” stop immediately.As a party committed to the rule of law, Oyebamiji said the APC would continue to pursue justice and fairness through lawful and constitutional means, particularly regarding the electoral process.
He noted that wider consultations with elders and critical stakeholders were underway on the next steps following INEC’s declaration.
He urged party members not to be discouraged or lose faith in democracy, but to remain resolute and confident in the institutions established to protect democratic rights.
He called on them to close ranks, strengthen party structures, deepen grassroots presence, and begin immediate mobilisation for the 2027 elections, especially the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in Osun.
Oyebamiji expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his support, former Governor Bisi Akande for his counsel, and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy (and former Osun Governor) Adegboyega Oyetola for efforts to reposition the party.
He also praised APC members for their resilience and commitment throughout the campaign, which engaged diverse groups across the state after different tendencies within the party united following his emergence as candidate in December 2025.
INEC had declared Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, with Oyebamiji taking 11.
