Osun Election: APC Stakeholders Petition Tinubu, Blame Oyetola For Loss to Accord

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have petitioned President Bola Tinubu, attributing the party’s recent governorship election defeat to former governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola.

The petition, signed by Professor Akin Adeyanju (Coordinator) and Sola Ajayi (Secretary) of the Osun APC Stakeholders Forum, expressed regret over the loss despite the President’s support for the party.

The stakeholders stated that Oyetola’s actions were the primary cause of the defeat. They accused him of appointing friends, allies and relatives to federal positions and unilaterally selecting candidates for elective offices in the state, while disregarding advice from party elders to include other key stakeholders.

They further claimed that Oyetola concentrated federal and state appointments within his hometown and faction. This pattern of exclusion, they argued, alienated the party’s base and cost it support from important stakeholders and communities across the three senatorial districts, contributing directly to the loss on August 15.

In the petition, the group urged President Tinubu to:

Launch an immediate, independent review of the Osun APC leadership structure and candidate-selection process ahead of future elections.

Convene a reconciliation meeting involving Minister Oyetola, party elders and dissatisfied stakeholders, supervised by the National Working Committee.

Ensure fairness in federal appointments from Osun State so that representation reflects the diversity of the party’s membership rather than one faction.

Set up a fact-finding committee to examine the conduct of the primaries and concerns raised by party elders.

The stakeholders also recommended a state congress organised by the National Working Committee to produce a truly representative Osun APC executive, a reconciliation summit uniting all factions and interest groups, a transparent and inclusive candidate-selection process based on broad consultation, and deliberate inclusion of people from different senatorial districts and groups in future appointments and candidacies.

They stressed that the party’s long-term recovery in Osun would depend on deliberate steps to restore unity.
