A fire outbreak has killed a woman and her three children
and destroyed the Rugar Audu Badali Fulani community in Karasuwa LGA of Yobe
state.
In a statement on Saturday, the State Emergency Management
Agency (SEMA) said the incident occurred at about 5pm on Friday.
The victims were identified as Bilkisu, wife of Mallam
Bukar, and their three children, Zainab, Hafsat and Salamatu.
SEMA said the victims were buried according to Islamic
rites, while surviving members of the household were left homeless following
the fire.
The agency said it led a joint assessment and condolence
visit to the affected community with officials of the Karasuwa LGA and
community stakeholders.
During the visit, the team assessed the extent of the damage
and documented the destruction of residential structures and household
belongings.
SEMA said it also engaged the bereaved family and other
affected residents to assess their immediate needs and psychosocial condition.
The agency added that the assessment established an urgent
need for emergency relief materials, temporary shelter and psychosocial support
for the displaced survivors.
SEMA expressed condolences to Bukar, his surviving relatives
and the people of Karasuwa, while praying for the repose of the victims’ souls.
The agency also pledged to coordinate humanitarian support
and mobilise resources to assist those affected by the fire.
It appealed for collective efforts to prevent similar
incidents from occurring in communities across the state.
