Stakeholders in Gambari Ward 1, Ilorin East Local Government, along with 51 ward chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara Central, have downplayed Senator Saliu Mustapha’s defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, pledging continued loyalty to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, the APC’s governorship candidate.
Speaking at a press briefing in Ilorin on Wednesday, Councillor Ibrahim Salah said the decision was based on the visible impact of AbdulRazaq’s administration in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
“The dividends of democracy are now measurable and touching the lives of ordinary Kwara people, especially in the Central Senatorial District,” he noted.
Salah highlighted projects including over 113 kilometres of completed roads and interventions under the Kwara State Social Investment Programme, which he said had supported businesses, youths, and vulnerable residents.
He announced a vote of confidence in the governor and urged him to sustain development momentum.Similarly, APC ward chairmen led by Baba Abdullahi insisted Mustapha’s defection would not weaken the party’s grassroots structure.
Abdullahi described the chairmen as the “engine room” of mobilisation, stressing that Mustapha’s 2023 victory was a collective achievement of the APC, not a personal one.
“Senator Mustapha’s departure is a personal choice, not a reflection of the aspirations of the grassroots electorate. The APC remains intact, vibrant, and united behind our leader,” Abdullahi said, urging residents not to be distracted by “political tourism.”
The stakeholders pledged full support for APC candidates in the 2027 elections, including AbdulRazaq in his senatorial bid and Danladi in the governorship race.
