ISWAP Ambush in Borno Leaves Four Soldiers De@d, Others Injured

At least four Nigerian soldiers were k!lled and several others injured in an ambush by suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.

African jihadism expert Brant Philip disclosed the incident in a post on his official X handle, stating that the attack occurred on August 6 between Yamtake and Bitta.

According to him, the assailants used small arms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to strike, destroying three military vehicles and seizing weapons and ammunition.

Philip noted that ISWAP released graphic images from the attack, showing casualties among the soldiers.

While authorities have yet to confirm the incident, the Nigerian military reported on Tuesday that troops of Operation Hadin Kai repelled an ISWAP assault on a base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area.

Acting Information Officer Capt. Mohammed Goni said several terrorists were neutralized, though some soldiers sustained injuries.

The latest attack underscores the persistent threat posed by ISWAP in the North-East, where the group continues to target military formations and communities despite ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
