The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, for bye-elections into the Sakwa Constituency of Zaki Local Government Area and the Disina Constituency of Shira LGA, Bauchi State.
State Resident Electoral Commissioner Umar Ibrahim announced the date during the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Electoral Security meeting held at INEC’s Bauchi office.
He explained that Sakwa constituency comprises five wards with 100 polling units, while Disina constituency also has five wards with 95 polling units.Key timelines released include:
August 20: Publication of election noticeAugust 21–25: Party primaries and resolution of disputes
August 29–September 2: Online submission of nomination formsSeptember 8: Publication of Form EC9 and final list of candidates
September 10: Deadline for submission of polling agents’ names
September 9–17: Campaign period
September 19: Election DayIbrahim urged political parties to strictly comply with the timetable and conduct peaceful campaigns.
He also appealed to security agencies to ensure adequate protection for voters, officials, and materials.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu assured stakeholders of neutrality and professionalism, urging parties to submit campaign schedules early for effective security deployment.
The Sakwa bye-election follows the death of Assembly member Wanzam Zaki on June 21, 2026, while the Disina bye-election was necessitated by the resignation of Majority Leader Saleh Hodi, who contested the Shira LG chairmanship.
