The public feud between Bashir El-Rufai and his elder brother, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, sons of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has intensified, with Bashir issuing a direct threat against the lawmaker.
In posts on his X account on Saturday, Bashir attacked Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
He accused his brother of substance abuse and later declared: “I will destroy you & climb my bed and sleep peacefully.”
The precise cause of the latest clash remains unclear, though it appears connected to political differences, especially Bello’s previous ties to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani during the rift between the governor and their father.
Bello left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in May 2026, aligning their father in the opposition.
Bashir has claimed Bello stayed loyal to Sani until he sensed he was being sidelined, only then stressing family loyalty.
Earlier posts by Bashir contained personal allegations against Bello, including claims of drug and alcohol use, and accusations of hypocrisy over the family’s political positions.
The threat prompted criticism online. Politician Uche Rochas urged caution, writing: “If you destroy your brother, no one will see you as a hero. The more you try to destroy him, the more you destroy yourself and drag your family’s name through the mud. If you need someone to talk to, I am here.”
Bashir replied: “Sorry sir. Had to be said.”Another user, Dr Ibrahim Yaji, condemned the remarks, saying: “I kept telling my friend earlier that the joke is on Bashir. I can never trust anybody who can do this to his own blood. Even if my sibling kills my child, I won’t destroy him like this. No, my parents didn’t bring us up this way.”
Bashir responded: “That’s you o. And I’m sure you had a good brother.”
The dispute continues amid wider political tensions involving Nasir El-Rufai, who remains in detention over corruption-related allegations.
