The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 election, Adewole Adebayo, has alleged that the polls were a “charade,” claiming opposition parties contested against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rather than fellow candidates.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Adebayo dismissed the 2023 results as “fake,” insisting that any analysis based on them amounts to legitimizing fraud.
“In 2023, I contested against INEC. INEC were the opponents. All those numbers are fake. The whole thing was a charade,” he said.
He argued that governance cannot be built on manipulated figures, stressing that future elections must reflect genuine competition between candidates.
Adebayo expressed hope that the 2027 polls would be different, urging INEC officials and the police to ensure neutrality so that no candidate feels they are “running against the system.”
He added that elections should be like examinations where scores reflect effort, not manipulation, and called on Nigerians—including members of the ruling APC—to unite against what he described as “one-man rule.”
