Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), says opposition parties must unite to remove President Bola Tinubu from power in the 2027 elections.
Baba-Ahmed spoke on Monday at a summit of Nigeria’s
opposition political parties organised in Abuja by G100.
He said removing Tinubu from power was imperative and must
happen with the support of Nigerians.
“But the certainty of this happening will be reinforced by
the way we work,” he said.
“No party will be honest enough to tell you alone they can
defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC). There is no party among the six
that is here that is not facing an existential threat to its existence. None.
“We are all in court, there are efforts to cripple us, to
destroy us, but we will not be destroyed because we represent the Nigerian
people. Our back is against the wall, but we will fight back.
”In 2027, we will together remove this government and put
the Nigerian nation in a different trajectory.”
Baba-Ahmed said the coalition of opposition parties is a
“sign of hope” and “a light being beamed”.
He said the plan to remove Tinubu from power was not a joke,
adding that the opposition is serious about putting a new government in place
in 2027.
The political parties in attendance were the African
Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Nigeria Democratic
Congress (NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP)
and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a document shared during the summit, G100 said it had, in
the past weeks, held direct and deliberate private consultations with the
leadership of the six political parties, including national chairmen,
presidential candidates and senior political leaders.
The group said the consultations were aimed at facilitating
structured negotiations on opposition cooperation ahead of the 2027 elections.
