Gunmen on Sunday evening attacked the convoy of Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, in Ede South Local Government Area.
The incident occurred shortly after Mrs. Oyebamiji concluded a political engagement in Alajue Ward 2, where she met with residents and party supporters ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
She was accompanied by Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of APC deputy governorship candidate Alhaji Kayode Adereti, when the assailants—reportedly numbering about 15, struck around 7 p.m.
Although both women escaped unharmed, one member of the convoy, identified as the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, sustained severe head injuries and was rushed for medical treatment.
The attack adds to growing concerns over political violence in the state as the election date draws closer.
