The Council of Legal Education (CLE) of the Nigerian Law School has approved eight more universities for law admissions, taking the total number of institutions to 122 in the country from the 114 released in March.
The newly approved universities include Akwa-Ibom State
University; Aletheia University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun state; Amadeus University,
Amazi, Abia state; and European University of Nigeria, Abuja.
Others are Oduduwa University, Ipetu-Modu, Osun state;
Peaceland University, Enugu; Lux Mundi University, Umuahia, Abia state; and
Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta state.
In a statement on Monday, Aderonke Osho, CLE secretary and
director of administration, said the shortlisted universities are the only
accredited institutions authorised to admit students into law programmes.
“The public is further informed that any university that
admits students into a Law programme without the approval of the Council of
Legal Education is acting contrary to the provisions regulating legal education
in Nigeria and will be subject to appropriate sanctions in accordance with
extant regulations and policy,” the statement reads.
Osho noted that students admitted into law programmes in
universities that are not accredited by CLE will not be eligible for admission
into the law school.
The statement added that the council will continue to update
the list as necessary in line with its statutory mandate to regulate legal
education in Nigeria. Below are the names of approved institutions.
