The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has denied reports of a blanket ban on Uber, Bolt, and other e-hailing services at airports across the country.
In a statement issued Thursday, FAAN explained that its ongoing engagement with ride-hailing operators is aimed at creating a framework that ensures passenger safety, security, and orderly airport operations.
“FAAN wishes to clarify that its position is not, and has never been, directed at limiting passengers’ access to transportation options or undermining the important role that e-hailing services play in providing convenient mobility to air travellers,” the authority said.
The clarification follows public criticism over restrictions at airports such as Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
FAAN highlighted the introduction of the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS), a digital platform designed to modernise ground transportation, improve safety, and facilitate cashless operations.
The authority stressed that ACHRAMS is not an e-hailing app and was not created to compete with Uber or Bolt, but to provide operational visibility and accountability within airport premises.
According to FAAN, complaints about passenger solicitation and touting made it necessary to establish a clear framework for managing commercial transport activities.
The authority said it is working with e-hailing operators to reach a “mutually workable operational framework” that balances convenience with safety and accountability.
FAAN acknowledged that some passengers may have experienced inconvenience during the transition but assured that discussions with operators are ongoing.
It reiterated its commitment to protecting travellers while ensuring seamless airport experiences.
