Ex-IGP Suleiman Abba: No Regrets Over Role in 2015 Presidential Election

Former Inspector-General of Police Suleiman Abba, now the PDP candidate for Jigawa South-West Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, says he has no regrets about his role in ensuring the declaration of Muhammadu Buhari as winner of the 2015 presidential election.

Speaking at the official flag-off of his campaign in Dutse, Jigawa State, Abba explained that his actions during the tense collation period were motivated by a commitment to peace and law, not partisan loyalty.

He recalled how then-INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega contacted him during disruptions at the collation centre involving former minister Godsday Orubebe.

Abba said he assured Jega that the situation was under control and refused repeated calls from top government officials who allegedly sought his cooperation to interfere.

“I knew that if Buhari was denied after winning, there would have been chaos, destruction, and killings. I acted because of the oath I swore to protect the country,” Abba stated, adding that he later told Buhari his decision was not personal but rooted in duty.

Despite his role, Abba expressed disappointment that the APC denied him a Senate ticket at the time.

He said his move to the PDP was driven by a desire to provide better representation and contribute to development in Jigawa and Nigeria.“I want to make a difference. I want to provide purposeful representation to Nigerians,” he said.
