Ex-Bauchi Rep Dumps APC for PRP

Former Bauchi Federal Constituency lawmaker Aminu Danmaliki has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Danmaliki, who has been active in politics since 2003, announced the move at a press briefing on Saturday.

He said the decision came after careful reflection, sincere consultation and prayerful consideration, and was guided by principle rather than political convenience.

“Today is not simply about changing political parties. It is about choosing principles over convenience. It is about choosing conviction over comfort. It is about choosing the people over power,” he said.

He stressed that he left the APC without bitterness or malice and with respect for those he had worked with over the years.

His conviction, he added, is that leadership must respond to the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians.

Danmaliki pointed to widespread economic difficulties, including hunger, unemployment, inadequate healthcare and limited educational opportunities.

He said government’s role is to protect, empower and improve citizens’ lives, not worsen them.

He described the PRP as a party rooted in social justice, accountability, quality education, affordable healthcare, rural development and economic opportunity, ideals he believes remain relevant to Nigeria’s current situation.

On Bauchi State, Danmaliki noted its rich agricultural, mineral and human resources but said progress has been held back by poor leadership and inconsistent implementation of people-focused policies.

Reflecting on his own public service record as a journalist, commissioner, federal lawmaker, entrepreneur, former President of the Bauchi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, and founder of educational and healthcare institutions, he said his focus has always been improving people’s lives.

Danmaliki also declared support for Senator Shehu Buba as the PRP’s candidate for the 2027 Bauchi governorship race, describing him as a man of courage, vision and commitment.

He pledged to use his experience and networks to help the party succeed in the state.

He called on youths, women, farmers, artisans, traders, professionals, traditional rulers and religious leaders to back the PRP and urged politicians to prioritise issue-based campaigns over divisive politics.

With honest leadership, prudent resource management and people-centred governance, he expressed optimism that both Bauchi State and Nigeria can overcome poverty and achieve sustainable development.
