The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man accused of impersonating its personnel and extorting motorists in Abuja.
The suspect, identified as Moferewa Maiye from Mopamuro LGA in Kogi State, was apprehended late Wednesday near NITEL Junction, Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II.Security sources revealed that DSS operatives acted on credible intelligence, trailing Maiye to his hideout before arresting him.
He was found in possession of a DSS tactical uniform and a fake pistol allegedly used to intimidate commuters and extort money.
During interrogation, Maiye claimed the uniform and kit belonged to his late brother, Monday Maiye, who was a DSS officer.
Investigators are now probing how he obtained the items and whether he had engaged in similar acts previously.
Officials said the arrest was part of broader efforts to prevent criminals from exploiting the identity of security agencies to commit offences.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
