Bandit Kingpin, 60 Others K!lled as DSS, Vigilantes Foil Katsina Attack

A major security operation in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State has left more than 60 suspected bandits de@d, including a notorious kingpin identified as Idi Abasu Aiki, after operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), vigilantes, and local hunters foiled a planned reprisal attack.

Details of the OperationTargeted Bandit Group: Intelligence reports indicated that over 200 armed bandits, allegedly led by Idi Abasu Aiki and supported by fighters from Zamfara’s Ado Aleru faction, stormed Guga village intending to attack communities accused of aiding local security groups.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the DSS had laid a trap based on “water-tight intelligence,” leading to the deaths of Aiki and 14 of his top commanders.

While over 60 bandits were neutralized, four members of the Katsina State Community Vigilantes and local hunters also lost their lives during the confrontation.

Clearance operations were later conducted, with security forces recovering arms and other items abandoned by the fleeing attackers.

The foiled attack was reportedly intended as retaliation for an earlier confrontation in Dawan Laila village, where local hunters inflicted heavy losses on armed groups.

The joint effort between DSS operatives, vigilantes, and hunters highlights the growing reliance on community-based security initiatives in Nigeria’s fight against banditry.

The death of Idi Abasu Aiki, linked to multiple attacks across Katsina and Zamfara States, could weaken bandit networks in the region.

Despite the success, the loss of vigilante members underscores the risks faced by communities defending themselves against armed groups.
