African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to bar President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku’s petition centers on claims that Tinubu submitted a forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The document reportedly bears the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle,” which differs from the President’s official name, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The plaintiffs argue that this discrepancy raises questions about Tinubu’s eligibility to run for office.
They are asking the court to determine whether the alleged irregularity violates constitutional requirements for presidential candidates.
The suit also challenges certain provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, questioning their application to candidate qualifications ahead of the 2027 polls.
