The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has declared that Christians will continue preaching in commercial buses despite the proposed Federal Road Safety Corps (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to impose a ₦50,000 fine on anyone convicted of hawking, trading, or preaching inside public vehicles.
PFN President, Bishop Wale Oke, speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, insisted that believers would resist any attempt to silence evangelism.
“We will preach in buses if they want to imprison us; let them come and arrest us. We are coming. We will preach in buses; they cannot stop us,” Oke said.
The cleric, who also leads the Sword of the Spirit Ministries International, argued that restricting public preaching violates Christians’ constitutional right to propagate their faith. He maintained that Christians would “rather obey God than man,” describing the bill as an attack on religious freedom.
In a viral video, Oke reiterated his stance, saying:
“Make all the stadiums in Nigeria become a prison if you want to enforce that law. We will preach in buses; we will preach everywhere.”
Senate’s Clarification
The Senate has since clarified that the bill does not introduce a new prohibition. It explained that the restriction on preaching and hawking in commercial vehicles has existed since the FRSC Establishment Act of 2007 and was retained in the proposed amendment.
The upper chamber stressed that the provision is aimed at ensuring commuter safety, not curbing religious activities, and urged stakeholders to present their concerns through the legislative process before the bill is passed.
