The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has secured a clean sweep in the August 29, 2026 local government elections in Anambra State, winning all 21 chairmanship positions and councillorship seats across the state.
Announcing the results at the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) office in Awka, the commission’s chairperson, Genevieve Osakwe, declared the elections peaceful, transparent, and credible.
Osakwe confirmed that APGA candidates emerged victorious in all 362 wards and 21 LGAs, noting that results were carefully collated and verified before being affirmed.
“All the candidates of APGA have been officially declared winners as Councilors and Executive Council Chairmen-elects. The elections were conducted in line with state electoral laws and guidelines,” she said.
The ruling party fielded candidates in 20 LGAs, while the Young Progressives Party contested only in Anambra East.No opposition presence: Apart from YPP, no other party participated, and opposition agents were absent during the result declaration.
Security agencies were commended for maintaining order throughout the polls.Osakwe praised Anambra residents for turning out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights, describing the election as a reflection of the people’s will.
The outcome further consolidates APGA’s dominance in Anambra politics, with the party now firmly in control of grassroots governance across the state.
