Anambra Security Outfit Dislodges Gunmen’s Camps, Recovers Rocket Launchers

The Anambra State security outfit, Agunechemba Security Squad, has dismantled suspected gunmen’s camps in Orumba North and Orumba South Local Government Areas, recovering a cache of arms that included two General Purpose Machine Guns and locally made rocket launchers.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the outfit’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Nweke Nweke, said the rocket launchers had been handed over to the Nigerian Army.

He described the operation as a significant breakthrough in the fight against insecurity, noting that it followed intelligence gathering and undercover operations at major security flashpoints in Anambra South Senatorial District over the past few days.

According to Nweke, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the work of the Agunechemba Security Squad and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to partnering with the outfit and other security agencies to combat crime in the state.

The weapons handover took place on Saturday at the office of Agunechemba’s Director of Operations in Awka, led by Chief Chinenye Ihenko.

Representing the Governor’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Kenneth Emeakayi, Ihenko described the transfer as a demonstration of the partnership between the military and Agunechemba.

He said the operation ranked among the outfit’s greatest achievements, with the team suffering no casualties. When confronted, the gunmen retreated, abandoning their weapons and fleeing with injuries.

Ihenko thanked Governor Soludo for the support that had enabled Agunechemba to reclaim areas previously dominated by criminals, particularly in Orumba North and South, Ihiala, and Ogbaru LGAs.

He urged residents to continue supporting the outfit, stressing that tackling insecurity requires collective effort.

Also speaking, the Commander of the 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support), Onitsha, Col. Buteus Yakubu, represented by Lt. P.O. Idowu, praised the collaboration among the military, the Nigeria Police Force in Anambra State, and Agunechemba.

The event concluded with the formal handover of the two General Purpose Machine Guns and a locally made rocket launcher.
